Thread Lifting
Thread Lifting · Lifting Thread Embedding
Thread lifting is a lifting procedure in which medical threads are inserted under the skin to pull up sagging tissue. The threads are also intended to stimulate collagen production to help improve skin elasticity.
It is well suited to those concerned about changes in facial contour — sagging cheeks, nasolabial folds, a blurred jawline, or a double chin. At Myeongdong RI& Korean Medicine Clinic, we customize the type, direction, and number of threads according to your face shape, skin thickness, fat volume, and degree of sagging.

The thread lifting process

Face shape & sagging analysis
Using a facial analysis device, we closely assess cheek sagging, nasolabial folds, jawline, double chin, left–right asymmetry, and skin thickness.

Customized design
We map out the direction of thread insertion and the lifting points according to your face shape and the direction of sagging.

Anesthesia
Pain-relief pharmacopuncture or numbing cream is applied to reduce discomfort during the procedure.

Thread insertion
Medical threads are inserted along the direction of sagging in the cheeks, jawline, and nasolabial folds to naturally lift the tissue. The threads are anchored to the firm fascia layer to help the lift last.

Thread lifting Q&A
What does thread lifting do?
It aims to lift sagging cheeks, nasolabial folds, the jawline, and a double chin to refine the facial contour. Beyond simply pulling the skin, the threads are intended to stimulate fibroblasts in the surrounding tissue and encourage new collagen synthesis. The aim is a lifting change right after the procedure, plus skin tissue that becomes firmer over time (individual results vary).
How long do the results last?
Results vary widely depending on the type of thread used, the number inserted, skin elasticity, degree of sagging, and lifestyle — generally lasting from 6 months to over a year. The threads themselves are gradually absorbed by the body, but the collagen tissue formed around them may help maintain firmer skin for some time even after the threads are absorbed. The procedure may be repeated when sagging begins to return.
How long do swelling, bruising, and pain last after the procedure?
Swelling and bruising vary by individual, but most subside within 1–2 weeks, and at most within a month. Early on, you may feel a pulling sensation along the direction of the threads, stiffness, or discomfort when chewing or laughing widely. This is a normal response as the threads settle into the tissue, and it gradually eases over time. However, if the pain worsens or is accompanied by heat, redness, or signs of inflammation, you should visit the clinic promptly.
